SDG Blog 5: Gender inequality in Ghana.

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among

those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower

women). Ghana is a country located in western Africa. It has 47 different local languages, and it is rich

in diversity. The findings show that there are a lot of obstacles for women in Ghanaian societies. The

research suggested that women have lower literacy rates, lower participation in official jobs, lower rate

of women participate in tertiary education (Burgess & Ayentimi, 2020).

In recent years, the Ghanaian government is working to reduce the gender gap. Psychological violence is high in Ghana, female is engaged in unpaid domestic works. But in recent years Ghana has made progress in addressing early child marriages (United Nations Partnerships for SDGs Platform, n.d.). To address the issue of early child marriage they planned a framework, prioritize the establishment of an advisory committee, set up a different network for sharing the experiences, utilized the Ghanaian popular personalities as a goodwill ambassador. They also worked for women's participation in leadership roles and professional works. They appointed more women candidates as a chief executive of local government. This step involved women in the decision-making process and encouraged others too.

Conclusion: The Ghanaian government is working on United Nations 2030 SDG agenda and they have also reported their progress actively. It has shown its commitment towards achieving the goals by decreasing the gender gap. They have addressed all the barriers and obstacles for women bypassing the law called Affirmative Action Bill. The law ensures and protects gender balance from the government officials to the official bodies.

  1. One thing I know a lot of African countries women or to be seen not heard and take care of their husband. But I have seen this shift in a lot of African countries where men are starting to respect their African women counterparts more and treat them as equals. Ghana women who have low educational level it has no surprising effect on because that's very similar to the other countries that I've seen. I did not know Ghana speak over 47 different languages another heavily diverse. I like the fact that they're trying to stop child marriages by putting in framework an establishing advocacy committee and in doing other things as expressing in voicing their opinions about it. But it's nice to see they're taking steps towards making women there equals then there just seen to be heard. I also wonder how are they going to educate young children like specially the young girls how to be treated and teach the young boys of how to treat women when they get older .

SDG 6 : Gender inequality in Iraq.

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower women). I am looking at Iraq for a country in this blog. Iraq lies in the eastern part of the Arab world. It is bordered by Turkey in the north, east by Iran, west by Syria and Jordan. It is a middle eastern state with the least access to the sea and offshore sovereignty  (Woods, n.d.) .    Iraq confirms its commitment to achieve SDG 5 by 2030. Gender inequality is high in Iraq in the past. The position of women is still behind in another region compare to Kurdistan region of Iraq. The Iraq is also trying to follow the Kurdistan policy at the national level to eliminate gender inequality  (Kaya, 2018) .     In 2019 Iraq held a conference to shape the vision of Iraqi women on the SDG's agenda. They discussed about the position o...

SDG 7 : Gender equality in Switzerland

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower women). Switzerland is a champion itself on the topic of gender equality and it is partnered with the UN for gender equality around the world.          Switzerland is involved with UN women on all the issues related to gender like the pay gap, violence against women, gender equality in governance, budgeting, and reducing the pay gap  ( Partner Spotlight: Switzerland,  n.d.) . Switzerland has taken a bold step and placed women's issues in their institutional agenda to achieve SDG goals by 2030. Switzerland's new SDG objectives have placed gender equality at the top among its seven objectives. From a national level to a domestic level Switzerland has placed legislation where a company with more than 50 employees should review their pay policy with the l...

SDG Blog 3: Gender inequality in Bangladesh.

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower women). The best way to measure the progress of a nation is y looking at the way how they treat females. The topic of gender equality covers all the burning issues worldwide. They are  women's education, maternal health, economic empowerment of females, and the role of women in family, community, politics, and more. According to the study conducted by the UN, "women constitute more than two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population. Another research depicts that 80% of the world’s refugees are women. Also, women only own 1% of the world’s resources and earn a small part (1/10th) of the world’s income  (Srivastava, 2019)."       Bangladesh is located in South Asia bordered by India from  three sides, ...
