SDG Blog 4: Gender inequality in Philippines

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower women). Violence against women in Asia is high and severe. More than 37% of women in South Asia, 40% of women in South East Asia, and 68% of women in the Pacific have experienced abuse from their partners (Focus Areas: End Violence against Women, n.d.).

The Philippines is located in South East Asia. It is an island country with 107,418,655 people. It is also the thirteenth most populated country (Where Is the Philippines in the World? n.d.). The Philippines has also accepted the global goal to end all forms of violence and injustice against women. The SDG 5 targets of the UN consist of multiple indicators like women participation in politics, decision making, education level, eliminate all the harmful practices such as child marriage, forced marriage, female genital mutilation (David et al., 2018) The Philippines has passed an active agenda and legislation to protect women's rights. Some of the legislation includes setting targets for increasing the participation of women in high-level government positions and governing councils at the local level, expanding the coverage of maternity benefits, penalizing discrimination on the basis of gender, and protecting women and girls against violence. Its implementing rules provide for a governance structure for the monitoring of gender equality goals, i.e., the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the enforcement and governance of gender and women protections and participation across all levels of government.

SDG Blog 3: Gender inequality in Bangladesh.

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender’s equality and empower women). The best way to measure the progress of a nation is y looking at the way how they treat females. The topic of gender equality covers all the burning issues worldwide. They are  women's education, maternal health, economic empowerment of females, and the role of women in family, community, politics, and more. According to the study conducted by the UN, "women constitute more than two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population. Another research depicts that 80% of the world’s refugees are women. Also, women only own 1% of the world’s resources and earn a small part (1/10th) of the world’s income  (Srivastava, 2019)."       Bangladesh is located in South Asia bordered by India from  three sides, ...

SDG Blog 2 : Gender Equality inequality in India.

In 2015, United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve with its member. Among those Sustainable Development Goals, I chose number 5 (Achieve Gender equality and empower women).  In this Blog 2, I am choosing SDG 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower women) in India. Gender inequality is deeply rooted in our society and eliminating it will be one of the biggest achievements till today.    India is in the southern region of Asia. It occupies an important strategic position in South Asia (Where Is India Located? Location Map of India on a World Map, n.d.) . The status of women is influenced by their religion. The religion always mentions men above women. Due to the societal patriarchal nature, domestic violence has been culturally accepted in India.  Women were deprived of education because their main role was to look after the house and run the family smoothly.  Due to lack of education, only a few women used to...
